Sur quels critères les médecins se basent-ils pour provoquer un accouchement? La décision dépend surtout de la fameuse «date prévue d’accouchement» (DPA), fixée à 40 semaines après la date des dernières règles, et qui est en réalité bien imprécise. Car la durée de chaque grossesse est unique, et un fœtus est considéré «à terme» non pas à 40 semaines exactement mais plutôt entre 38 et 42 semaines d’aménorrhée (absence de menstruations).
